Welcome to 1st Grade!

My name is Lindsey Simmons. I am thrilled that I will be your child’s first grade teacher! I have been looking forward to meeting them all summer. As you may have heard, I also attended Hylen Souders Elementary. I graduated from Big Walnut High School and then attended Wright State University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and then earned my master’s degree in Teacher Leadership. My husband and I have a daughter, Madilyn, she will be attending kindergarten at Souders this year. We also have a son named Evan. He is two and a half years old. We live in Galena, so I may see you out and about one time or another.

This will be my eighth year teaching at Souders. My first year I taught kindergarten and I was also a reading tutor. I then moved to first grade, this is my seventh year teaching first grade. I have learned many things from my experiences and I am sure I will learn a lot this year as well. I am very excited about this year because it's different than any other year. More info to come....

Our Specials

We have specials on a rotating A, B, C, D schedule. If school is cancelled, we have that special on the next school day.

D Day: Physical Education
Every Thursday we go to our school library. So don't forget your books!

Personalized Spelling Lists

You should be seeing personalized spelling lists coming home at the beginning of each week. This is a list of high frequency words your child has had difficulty spelling from a pre-test that was given. Please study with them at home. If they get a word wrong, it will appear on their list for the following week. If they get it right, AWESOME! Let me know if you have additional questions.
